Notes
This book is a rare work of Japanese art in itself. Our photographs do not do justice to this marvel of Japanese accomplishment. This if the fourth edition, 1937. The first edition was 1934. There are 50 exquisite prints of specific flower arrangements, each facing a wonderful explanation of the arrangement. Again, our photographs do not do justice to the beauty of the illustrations. But what is so amazing is the construction of the book: it is really a continuous scroll that has been folded to 52 create page-like sections (see pics. 5 and 6). The covers retain their original brocade cloth. The book then fits into an intact box that is covered in fine Japanese paper. Wonderful!
The condition is quite good. The heavy hand-made paper may have darkened somewhat. A past owner has written her name on a blank facing page, alas, but it is not a very large signature. The box is still quite operable, but does show some shelf wear on the spine and along the edges.
The size is 5 3/4" x 8 3/4" x 1 1/2" thick.
