Notes

o One of the most beautiful kilims originating from this area. Old, plant-dyed Van-Hakkari area kilims are now extremely rare.

o The border contains a complex, alternating color four-way elibelinde motif that reads in the positive as well as negative spaces. It is banded with an alternating-color selvage wrap.

o The excellent dye colors in this kilim have retained their freshness and beauty.

o The plaiting and braiding of the warps add greatly to this kilim's overall appeal. Warp wool is identical to that found in old Turkmen weavings.

o Such kilims reflect the aristocratic spirit of these fiercely proud tribesmen. The remoteness of this rugged mountainous terrain has protected them from commercial influence and helped to preserve the originality and vital expression of the weavings.

o This kilim is a welcome addition to any collection and a key type in the kilim group of this collection. A superb example of a noteworthy weaving type. Equal or superior to published examples.
