This type of weaving is done in a wide area of the Southern Caucasus and Northern Iran by Kurdish and Shahsevan groups, making identification of a definitive weaving group difficult.
This example ranks as one of the best of its type. Superior examples, as far as design, exist, but this is an unqualified excellent piece in the collectible category. The simplicity of this appealing rug is somewhat deceptive when one more closely analyzes the design. This weaving belongs to the borderless, banded type. More often, the simple bands alternate with the bands filled with rows of medallions. The weaver, in this instance, has chosen to simplify the design even more.
