The extraordinary interpretation of the elibelinde motif into a complete rug design displays the genius of the weaver-designer. Extroardinary weaving skill has been demonstrated in this piece, as well as a multitude of beautiful natural dye colors and excellent wool quality. Rows of small pastel colored brushed wool "Pray/wish" tufts are tied in. Asymmetrical forms such as the two elaborate triple pinwheel motifs branching from elibelinde forms in the upper 1/3 of the field on ether side of the top medallion are rare in Anatolian kilims. Each medallion contains concentric elements providing depth, ending with a Wolf's mouth motif at the center. |

Notes
This is a marvelous example of village dowry weaving. The mint condition suggests that it was preserved as an heirloom, ket in a dowry chest and passed down through generations of brides until its cash value became too tempting to the heirs living in a modern world.
