Item for sale... ~ Antique MAHOGANY DINING TABLE ~
Description- Here's a beautiful, vintage, Mahogany Dining Table. This formal, Duncan Phyfe style extension table dates to the late 1940's. It was originally sold by J.B.Van Sciver, a well known high end furniture retailer that was located in New Jersey. This is a high quality table made of beautifully grained, "Crotch Mahogany" veneers and it still retains the original finish. It has double pedestal 3 legged bases with very beautiful turnings on the center posts. The legs have beaded fluting down the top side of the legs and the toes are capped with brass covers. There is a lever locking mechanism under the table that securely locks the table closed when the extra leaf is not being used. The table will accept one 13" wide extra leaf but I do not have a leaf for it. You can have a leaf made by a cabinet making shop for about $75-85. I would be more than happy to refer you to an excellent shop if you desire to have the leaf made. The table easily seats 6 people and will seat 8 comfortably with the extra leaf in use. The construction and quality of this table is top notch. The table top is fully skirted underneath and has additional reinforcing aprons on both ends to add rigidity to the top and maintain a level top surface. Details like this are not found on lesser quality tables. The legs and bases are super sturdy and solid and all the joints are good and tight. I even have a set of table pads that are included with the sale.

Condition- Is this a beautiful table you ask? ABSOLUTELY! It's gorgeous! Overall the table is in exceptionally nice condition. Nicer than most tables I see of it's age. However, it does have a few things worth mentioning so please pay attention. I've posted more than 2 dozen photos taken before AND after the table was detailed. At one point in time a moving company managed to put 2 large scratches on one side of the table top. They are indented in the finish but not so deep that they go into the wood. I took pics before and after so you could get a better idea of how those scratches look. They are far less visable now that I've detailed the table. They are not visable from all angles and can only be seen when viewing the table top from a certain angle and in a certain light. Aside from those 2 scratches the table is in excellent condition and ready to go. There are no stains or water marks and no damaged, missing or lose veneer. All leg joints are extremely tight and solid. In my opinion the top could be lightly sanded and recoated in order to fill the two scratches mentioned. It may cost around $150-200 to have a professional shop do this work. If you're experienced at this sorta work then do it yourself and save. In either case the table is perfectly usable just the way it is. Once a placemat or china setting are on the table you won't even notice the scratches. I only keep mentioning them because some people just don't pay attention and I don't need anybody crying about it after they bought the table. Thanks for looking!
The TABLE measures 62" inches LONG and 42" inches WIDE. It will accept one additional 13" leaf for a total possible length of 75".
Please remember this item is USED! You should expect to find slight imperfections and signs of normal everyday use or age such as scuff marks, scratches, nicks etc. Everything is sold “As-Is”. 1. SHIPPING COSTS & OPTIONS...
Please understand that I do my best to keep shipping costs to a minimum but nothing is cheap these days. Packing materials, travel expenses, eBay fees, PayPal fees, actual shipping costs and my time are all real factors in determining a fair shipping price. The calculator on eBay does NOT always give an accurate quote, especially on oversized items. Items are NOT prepackaged or weighed. Many times there will be additional surcharges applied by the shipping company once the item is actually packed and shipped (This usually applies to larger items). The quote shown on the calculator is merely a guide and should not be considered binding. I'm only human and occasionally I may inadvertently enter inaccurate specs on the calculator which will cause an invalid shipping quote. If the cost seems unusually high or low please notify me so I can check it to be sure it's correct. I don't want my customers to pay any more than they have to for shipping but I can't ship at a loss either just because of a simple human mistake.
BUYERS WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL U.S.
* I can ship this item anywhere in the USA. Use the shipping calculator to get a quote for shipping to your location. Shipping and handling costs will be whatever the calculator indicates. Some items are going to be expensive to ship due to sheer bulk size and/or weight once they are boxed.
* Local pickup is always welcome and free of any charges at my place in Norristown, PA (19403).
* I can transport this item for a nominal fee to the Twin Tiers area of PA/NY and you can pick it up just North of Mansfield, PA (16946). I am only available on certain days and times but I'll do my best to work with you. Please don't have unrealistic expectations. It may be as long as 2-3 weeks before I'm able to accomodate a pickup at this location but it will save you some money on shipping costs.
* I may be able to deliver for a fee within a 200 mile radius of either mentioned locations or to certain areas of NY, PA, NJ, MD, DE or VA. Please email in advance to find out if I can deliver to your location.
BUYERS OUTSIDE THE CONTINENTAL U.S.
* I will gladly ship most small items anywhere in the world. Shipping large items outside of the USA may or may not be affordable depending on the size and/or weight of the item. I will ship to Canada, Mexico, or anywhere else if there is an available shipping method for the item being sold. Use the calculator where applicable to enter your country or postal code and get a shipping quote. Shipping anything Internationally can be very expensive and it can take several weeks for items to arrive so please be patient.
2. INSURANCE…
I will add delivery confirmation and/or insurance to cover the purchase price of this item if shipped within the USA. Insurance may or may not be available on items shipped out of the country. The new rules on eBay state that sellers are supposed to be responsible for every item they sell to include any damage or loss of the item even after it leaves our hands. How ridiculous is that? That's what insurance is for! I can not take personal responsibility for what happens to packages once they leave my hands. It rarely happens but in the unfortunate event that an item is lost or damaged in transit, please notify me immediately and I will file a claim with the shipper. Any monies refunded as a result of that claim will be returned to the buyer. This process usually takes several weeks, so please be patient.
3. SHIPPING TIMES... VERY IMPORTANT!
Please pay attention here. I normally travel several days a week and am frequently out of town on other business for up to a week at a time. As such, I am NOT able to retrieve mail on a daily basis nor am I able to ship on a daily basis. I usually ship once or twice a week but it varies depending on my schedule. I don't always have access to a computer to check emails or answer questions but I do my best to answer inquiries ASAP. If you send me a note and don't get an answer right away I'm probably out of town. I do the best I can to ship items quickly but depending on the type of payment you make, when I recieve the payment and a number of other variables, it will normally be about 1-2 weeks after you make payment before you receive your item. Email me in advance if you need a rush on something. If you're in a big hurry and don't have the patience to wait then please do us both a favor and shop with another seller. I'm only one person and this is not my entire life. Thanks for understanding!
4. PAYMENTS… I GLADLY ACCEPT PAYMENTS SENT THROUGH THE MAIL!
If you would like to send your payment through the mail just email me and I'll be happy to oblige.
I will allow up to 5 "Business" days for mailed payments to arrive. I wait 8-10 Business days for payment to clear my bank before shipping. NOTE... You will incur a $30 FEE for any bounced or returned payments.
I reluctantly accept PayPal but ONLY because eBay is FORCING sellers to accept it.
IF YOU'RE GOING TO USE PAYPAL YOUR PAYMENT MUST BE MADE WITHIN 5 DAYS!
I may cancel the sale and sell the item to another bidder or relist it if I don’t receive your payment within 5 days.
Buyers planning to pick up an item in person may pay in cash provided it's within 5 days. If you need more than 5 days to pick up your item you will have to pay in advance of pick up and within 5 days. All payments must be made in U.S. dollars.
I always file a report on NON-PAYING bidders.
5. SALES TAX...
PA residents pay 6% sales tax. Also, anyone that picks an item up in person will have to pay PA sales tax regardless of where you live. This will normally only affect people buying large furniture items that can't be shipped out of state but it applies to anyone picking up an item in person.
6. STORAGE...
This generally applies to large items that are too big to ship but includes any item a buyer intends to pick up in person. I am more than willing to keep things for a short period of time (2 weeks) until you can pick up your item. However, unless we have agreed on other arrangements in advance I will begin charging storage fees after 2 weeks on things that haven't been picked up at the rate of $1 a day. Items left unclaimed for 45 days or more after the auctions end will be resold and any monies paid by the buyer will be forfeited.
7. FEEDBACK…
Pretty simple... Your feedback will get mine. I certainly appreciate positive feedback and I will leave positive feedback once I receive yours. If there's a problem of any kind just email me and allow me the opportunity to correct the issue before you resort to leaving neutral or negative feedback. That isn't going to help. I'll do my best to keep a happy customer if you just give me the chance. I encourage all buyers to leave a 5 STAR rating on the DSR panel in order to help me keep my account in good standing with eBay and allow me to continue to offer great deals on quality merchandise.
DO YOU REALLY KNOW HOW FEEDBACK WORKS ON EBAY?
The ridiculous new rules eBay has adopted concerning feedback have not only made things insanely complicated but they've also made it almost impossible to remain a seller in good standing or to even operate a business. eBay now "REQUIRES" sellers to maintain a star rating on the "Detailed Seller Rating" (DSR) feedback panel GREATER than 4.8 stars average. Leaving anything less than a full 5 star rating will cause long term negative impact on a sellers ability to sell on eBay. It takes a full YEAR for low star ratings to fall off of a sellers account. Low star ratings will cause the sellers listings to be made less visible in search results, the sellers listings can be canceled, the seller will be charged higher fees, the sellers account can be suspended or even terminated and a host of other "punishments". Can you believe it? Have you ever heard of a business punishing it's own customers? This really is insane and I really hate even having this kind of verbage on my page but it's IMPERATIVE that buyers realize how critical these star ratings are for sellers and act responsibly. Sellers really need your help more than ever before. In this economy we are all just trying to survive. I know I am. Most normal thinking people would consider 3 or 4 stars out of a possible 5 as a perfectly acceptable rating but eBay considers that a "failure". In order for sellers to remain in good standing on eBay we must recieve a 5 STAR rating in all four categories on the "Detailed Seller Ratings" (DSR) feedback panel. If for some reason you don't want to leave 5 stars in a particular category then please don't leave any star rating at all. That's better than leaving less than 5 stars. I have always done my very best to offer quality merchandise at fair prices and I work very hard to provide buyers the best service possible but some people just can't be pleased no matter what ya do. For the other 99.5% of eBayers, I welcome your business. Thanks for understanding!
