Description:
An exquisite ornothological watercolour on artist's paper dating circa Late 19th Century, framed - approx 15 X 12 inches (38.1 X 30.48cm).

This is an exquisite English School watercolour dating from the Victorian period.
The ornothological depicts a classic late Victorian 19th Century study of a small bird. The watercolour has exquisite detailing, the bird perched on a branch which bears autumnal berries. This bird has cream breast and down feathers, with brown plumage and a sharp curved beak. A classic piece of natural history reflecting the Victorian's fascination with animals and nature. The species of the bird is written in pencil in the margin but very difficult to decipher.

Date:
The watercolour probably dates to around Late 19th Century.

Framing:
Later plain moulded Pine. Finish: Gilt.
The watercolour is mounted on board and has a beige mount.

Condition:
The painting is in excellent condition for its age. The artist's paper has mellowed with age, as would be expected, and does show some signs of foxing, the watercolour still retaining good colouring. The frame has one or two minor marks with an antiqued gilded finish.
