MEDAL OF HONOR, 1ST LT BALDOMERO LOPEZ, USMC memorial cover with a pictorial postmark from Falls Church, VA on August 24, 2008. Blue portrait printed on cachet #1800 by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. First Lt Baldomero Lopez, USMC was awarded the Medal of Honor for valor in the Korean Conflict. He was wounded during the Inchon landings and dropped an activated grenade. Unable to throw it toward the enemy positions, he smothered the grenade to protect his fellow Marines from injury. Cover franked with 42 cent Purple Heart stamp and 3 cent USMC stamp.
