Notes

Caulonia was destroyed by Dionysius I of Syracuse in 389 or 388 B.C. Although it was later rebuilt, it never again struck coinage.

CAULONIA, 480-388 BC. STATER. Naked Apollo. Stag. Interesting!

ITALY
BRUTTIUM
CAULONIA, 480-388 BC

SILVER STATER, (7.5 grams)

Obverse: Male figure advancing right, right arm extended, left arm raised. Stag in right field
Reverse: Stag standing right. Retrograde KAV above stag
Reference: SNG Cop 1712, ANS 176, BMC 22, Sear 462

This is the first Ancient coint that I purchased. I was captivated by it's primitive apearance and simple design. I have since seen other specimens that show more detail in the striking.
