Antique Jade artefacts take a long time(months to years)to carve and inevitably will come across not fully finished Jades. This Jade Crouching Beast and some others are such WIP(Work In Progress). It is unfinished in the following:
01. The raised lines design are just being pecked in outline indicating one of the techniques used.
02. Obviously it is not then fully polished.
03. There is a pair of holes drilled for attachment,showing that this operation is done not as the last step.
Though unfinished,the intrinsic skills of the artist in Jade craft is already visible.An interesting research Jade in Jade techniques.
