Notes
This Ming Dynasty Jade is beautifully carved in the round, of a rodent (mouse, mongoose etc.) holding a pearl.Note: in Chinese folklore: the rodent family are considered 'Harbinger of Wealth'.The connotation is from Tibetan Buddhism, where the mongoose brings preciousness,in this case a pearl, symbolising pearls of wisdom(enlightment)or jewellery(material wealth).Either case,a most auspicious Jade 'carving'. Small (5.0-12.0cm) Jades in round are usually used as fondling pieces or paperweight.
