No Tang Dynasty Gold/Gilded Collection is complete without an ewer.Have both Gold and Gilded ewers and the ewer posted is a Gold Alloy ewer.Note the following:
01.The shape is of Persian origin and it is interesting to note that this basic shape was imitated in the underglazed blue & white porcelain ewers of the Yuan,Ming & Qing Dynasties.
02.The ewer is chased decorated with floral designs on a background of miniature punched circles. Note especially that the spout and handle are also decorated.
03.Close examination will show that assembly was by soldering different sections @ the neck, middle of ewer, spout, handle and base.
04.Most of gold/gilded utensils like cups, bowls, ewers etc. were for ceremonial and even daily usage and not for burial only as in the Tang Tri-colours ceramics.
Overall, a well crafted Gold Ewer, showing meticulous and well developed skills.
