Have several types of gold cups in collection. This is another type and the differences are:
01. This cup was mainly fabricated by soldering. There is another octagonal cup in collection but was casted;this cup's eight sides were soldered to each other and so were the other parts like the bottom, handle etc.
02.The cup is of gold alloy and the designs of birds, floral twigs and miniature punched rings background were traced similar to the gold stemcup in collection. Infact believed was from the same Persian Goldsmith Shop.
Finally, must remember that gold/gold gilded utensils were not only for imperial use but also for the wealthy merchants and the lower nobility class.
The main purpose of showcasing this octagonal gold cup,was that soldering(the most difficult joining technique) was used in its fabrication. Remember,at that time there was no pinpoint soldering flame.
