Put the Topeak Mini 6 Tool in your seatbag and forget about it. Like a good friend, it'll be there when you need it
Checking in at just 58 grams, or roughly the weight of 39 jumbo paperclips, Topeak's Mini 6 multi-tool ($13), tucks easily into a small roadie seatbag and provides the five most commonly used Allen keys (2345 and 6 mm) as well as a Phillips head screwdriver. This is not the kind of tool you use to perform actual bike fixes; it is so tiny that there's not much to grab a hold of to twist with any real force. But on a ride, it's ideal for the kind of emergency cleat tightening, bolt snugging and derailleur fiddling that will let you finish the ride right. Mid-ride adrenaline, plus the knowledge that there is no other tool available out on the open road, has helped me find the leverage needed to perform any necessary task, be it a seat height adjustment or stem tightening. Tip: Unfolding the opposite side wrenches effectively doubles the length of the tool, increasing leverage.
