Acquiring this Gold Horse was the impetus for starting my collection on gold/gilded antiques,especially from the Tang Dynasty of China. Note the following:
01. This horse breed (Fenghana - Northern Afghanistan) was a favourite of the Tang Imperial Court.
02. This is also a Gold Alloy item....note the heavy weight of 1.7 Kg.
03. The Horse was fabricated from several sheets of gold alloy, beaten/hammered,chased and embossed into the final shape of the horse,then soldered together.
04. Note the exquisite embossed/repousse dragons and phoenixes on the haunches of this Imperial Horse.Phoenixes on the front and dragons on the hind haunches.
Wonderful Antique...and is why my concept in Antique Collecting is Past in Present for Future.
