This is a superb rendition of the legendary Ji Gong (Mad Monk) of China in Soapstone.It is hand carved without electrical tools.The ingenuity of Ji Gong relaxing in a basket and the way the entire figurine is composed is a mark of a grandmaster's touch. The facial expression,the skeletal body and the casual slipper on the foot is so very natural and brings out the intrinsic characteristic of Ji Gong personality - WEIRD!! Even the details of the basket at the back view is marvellously finished. A MASTERPIECE !!!
It is difficult to explain the affection and fascination that the Chinese have for this "Mad Monk", who in reality is the reincarnation of the WESTERN GOLD ARHAT!!!Anyway, the Soapstone Ji Gong is posted because of the marvellous attention to details and exquisiteness.
