Notes
On stands November 2006 through February 2007 Four musicians and one actor walk into a hotel bar...ouch! Hilarity ensues as The Office's leading man, John Krasinski, teams up with pop-rock sweethearts The Shins in sunny Hollywood, California. Whether they're standing together, fully dressed in three-piece suits, sopping wet on the edge of a swimming pool, or drinking in a hotel bar at 1 in the afternoon, The Shins plus one remain their humble, hilarious selves despite the pressures of success. We take a seat next to these wise guys to discuss the transformation from indie to international, what it means to be funny, and the Shins' latest (and first post-Garden State) release, Wincing the Night Away. But what would a star-studded Hollywood event be without the appropriate cameos? Funny men David Cross and Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) stop by to tell us exactly why it is that comedy and music go so well together. Next, the modernist maestro, Brian Eno, sets us straight on robots and artistic spontaneity; versatile virtuoso John Lurie takes us fishing with a few of entertainment's most notable characters as we pay tribute to Fishing With John (including interviews with Dennis Hopper, Willem Dafoe, and Jim Jarmusch); Lily Allen strikes a pose and shares a smile on the eve of becoming an absolute megastar; we go to a Stones Throw family barbeque; Elvis Perkins grants us his first interview and tells a story of tragedy and triumph. Plus, Silver Jews, Cold War Kids, Catherine Wheel, Jeremy Enigk, legendary jazz photographer Pete Turner, movies Fast Food Nation and Pan's Labyrinth, and introductions to Of Montreal, Sondre Lerche, Subtle, and Fields. Also be on the lookout for a guest appearance from Bootsy Collins masquerading as "Boota Claus", funkdafied patron saint of the holiday season.
