Notes

In any Culture, the earliest extant evidence of a particular subject is important. Jade(Nephrite) because of its enduring toughness lends itself a better chance to survive the ravages of Nature and unfold the splendid Arts of the Ancients: in this case The Hongshan Culture of 5000 years ago.Note the following:

01. One of the earliest extant  example of a Bull in Jade or any other material.

02. The Jade is Nephrite and is originally slightly yellowish and translucent..

03. The Jade is exceedingly well carved and the grooves forming the eyes and leading to the mouth are incredibly hard to carve and fake.

04. There is a pair of holes at the back and two shallow vertical full length grooves, perhaps for more secured attachment.

This Jade Bullhead  of the Hongshan Culture,  as one of earliest extant evidence of a Bull is a highly important Jade in Chinese Culture and Civilisation. Visit the Friends of Jade website for more knowledge on Jade.
