Notes

This is a beautiful and realistic protrayal of a bird's head and because of the hooked beak is named as Jade(Nephrite) Hawk Head. There is a pair of holes at the back for attachment. The realistic nature will probably mean it is coming to the end of the Hongshan Era;perhaps ~2800 B.C. The Jade (Nephrite) is indigenous. This series of Hongshan Jades has a lot of 'Firsts'. This is probably among the first extant specimen of a Bird Head done in the round i.e. three dimensional.
