This Collection is of Jade artefacts forming component(part of) of very elaborate pectoral pendant sets.In vogue with the elite and royalty of the Eastern Zhou(Warring States) and Han Dynasty two thousand years ago.
This Jade(Nephrite) spiral (double S-shaped)pendant has a Dragon(Yang) head at one end and suprisingly a small phoenix(Yin) seems to emerge from the middle of the body instead of the usual phoenix head at the other end.It illustrates the principle - that at maximum Yang,Yin emerges and vice versa. The body is patterned with raise spirals and a thin raised edge forms the outline. An excellent extant Chinese Cultural Heritage.
A very similar piece is in the private collection: Unique Jade of the Ancient Chinese:The Dyer Ancestral Collection. That piece is slighter shorter at L:10.0cm .
