An item of the Scholar's Table - Jade Paperweight to hold down the sheet of paper during Calligraphy or painting. This Ming Dynasty antique has the archaistic Dragon/Phoenix of the Han and Warring States period of 1500 years ago.A beautifully openwork design of a Dragon/Phoenix that seems to float above the base which is completely hollowed out. From investigation, believe the 'Jade' is not Nephrite but something softer,as revealed by the whitish specks on bottom of base.Anyway,a beautiful sculpture.
Usually, asked by enthusiasts, what to collect and will recommend to go for intricate detailed work, where the 'value' can be seen, rather than the profound simplicity of some neolithic era Jades.
