Camping and Hiking

  • Going Wild

Can you imagine walking from Seattle to the tip of Alaska?  This route is called the Wild Coast and it covers 4000 miles over 8 months.  That is one great adventure.  That is what Hig and Erin are doing this year, and they are blogging all along the way.  The are in day 47.  Visit their website, www.groundtruthtrekking.org, to  check out how they are doing it.  You can take a look at their gear page to see what gear they are taking.  Everybody here at iTaggit, wishes them the best of luck.

  • Camping and Hiking Tips

I have found a great site that has tips for both Camping and Hiking.  The tips for camping include gear, campsites, food, and technique.  The tips for hiking include cool trails, gear, kids, and safety.  These sites even have RSS feeds so you can get them sent to you daily.
  • Hiking Vicariously through Podcasts

I love to hike and do most of mine on the Barton Creek trail here in Austin.  I also love to dream of great adventures.  Lately I have been combining the two by listening to podcast's of Andrew Skurka's attempt of the Great Western Loop while hiking. I really like his beliefs and his focus on reducing the impact we have on our planet.  If you want a little adventure in your life, check him out!

Here is an exerpt from his web page.  "On April 9th Andrew Skurka began his attempt to become the first person to complete the Great Western Loop, a 6,875-mile footpath that consists of a network of five existing long-distance hiking trails and a self-made segment through the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts. He will begin from Grandview Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, and so long as things go well he will return there seven months later, in early-November, after having passed through many of the most cherished and pristine wild lands in the Lower 48, including 12 National Parks and over 75 wilderness areas. The Great Western Loop highlights the cumulative magnificence of America's West, its long-distance trail system, and its National Parks, while also highlighting the environmental and ecological threats that they all share."
