  • ICAST Fishing Show

ICAST is THE big fishing gear show and this year ICAST is celebrating 50 years of showcasing to the world the largest collection of innovative products.  The reports on the new products have been rolling in over the last week and I thought I would link you to a few of the more interesting things I have seen come in.

If you want to see a list of the best of show items go to TackleTour.com.

There is an interesting new concept to be used while fishing the flats.  It is a cross between a kayak and a flats boat.  You can check it out at www.flatstalker.com.

The last item to check out is  sunglasses with removable lenses.  The interesting thing about  them is how the lenses are removed.  To see you can visit pFlogger.com

If you have any innovative product to share, make sure to load them on iTaggit and publish them to the Community Collection so we can see them.

  • Will you marry me? Glug, glug...

The other day we were talking about great new ways to propose marriage, so when I saw this article, I wanted to share it.  This a short but interesting story on how one outdoorsman did it in a Bass Pro Store

Let us know your story :) ...

  • Best Fly Fishing Videos... Ever.

I just ran across this blog on Fflogger (Field and Stream's fly fishing blog) and can attest to the quality of these movies.  There are three clips on the site called FeltSoulMedia.com, "World Trout", "The Hatch", and "Running Down the Man".  Each on is worth checking out, my personal favorite was "World Trout", it combines art with music and has a great spin on all the different trout in the world and why each one is important in it's own right.

Here is the post from Fflogger ... "If you haven’t seen Travis Rummel and Ben Knight’s last two movies, you are missing out. The film-making geniuses are taking fly fishing entertainment to higher levels than anybody out there. “The Hatch” and “Running Down the Man” literally give me goose bumps every time I watch them. Not only are Travis and Ben making great movies, but they’re doing it for a damn good reason—conservation. Right now the duo is spending 70+ days filming in Bristol Bay Alaska trying to convince the world to stop the largest proposed open pit gold mine in North America. Check out their blog to stay updated on filming and the Bristol Bay project"

  • Fly Fishing in the Yucatan

I recently got back from a fantastic trip to the Yucatan fly fishing for bonefish, tarpon, and permit.  We were down in the southern part of the Yucatan peninsula, almost to Belize.  We stayed at Casa Blanca Lodge which is listed in Fly Fisherman Magazine as a 'Best Bonefish Bet' (where you can see a map of where we were).  The lodge was in the Sian Ka'an Biosphere, which is a huge preserve in Mexico.  It is 1.3 million acres and home to hundreds of mammal and bird species and dozens of Mayan ruins.  Our lodge was on a point, the food and accommodations were stellar.  The fishing was great and the catching was pretty good.  The trip was put together by my buddy Joey Lin of Far Out Fishing Trips.  He has a blog that has some great fish pictures and stories.  All the fish were released all the smarter and wiser for being caught...
