Models and Kits

  • Monsters under the bed

Whenever someone comes to my house or office and sees the creatures everywhere, i'm always asked "what possessed you to collect monsters?". It's sort of a tough question to answer but i think it comes down to several reasons.

One - i LOVE monsters! anything stop motion - King Kong, dinosaurs, Ray Harryhausen. Universal and hammer creatures (vampires, werewolves, frankenstein, Creature from the black lagoon etc.) Classic B-movies and modern SPFX. Reading H.P. Lovecraft, Robert E Howard and Edgar Rice Burroughs added to the fun.

Two - Gojira! i saw Godzilla and fellow Kaiju,  in "Destroy all monsters" and the fascination went through the roof, i mean who can argue - he's the king of the monsters.

Three -  when i was a kid there weren't many monster toys out there. the only ones being the Aurora monster model kits. then about 20 years ago i discovered then started building garage kits, which are homemade unlicensed resin models. and i was back in love with them again.  i would also buy imported japanese kits and toys of godzilla, gamera and others. then Todd mcfarlane revolutionized the action figure market. and now you can get a toy figure from just about any movie for a reasonable price. On the higher scale is sideshow collectibles. these 12" figures are coveted and sell for extremely high prices depending on the scarecity and popularity. - The WETA Lord of the Rings figures put them on the map.

When it comes down to it - i collect monsters because i love them, they make me happy, and when people tell me they are scary or creepy - my answer is usually

" these are fantasy but real life, now THAT'S scary!"

so check out my collections! and collect what makes you happy!
