The Ancient Chinese craftmen are amazing and this cute Jade monkey standing and scratching its ear is an excellent example of their expertise. Note the following:
01.The Jade is Nephrite and originally translucent white. Nephrite is hard (6.5 Moh's Hardness) and stainless steel knife cannot even scratch it and the ancients can master nephrite so eloquently.....amazing.
02.This Jade Monkey is a miniature only 2.5cm(1") tall and the features and spirit of the monkey is so elegantly portrayed......amazing.
03.Miniatures require a completely different set of tools, vises for gripping and skills. Note that there is a hole ,drilled from top of head to the bottom ....amazing.
This antique Jade is from the Warring States ( 300 BC) of the Zhou Dynasty and archaic Jades from the Warring States are the most sought after for the Imperial Dynasties!!!
