The Yue Ware is an underestimated ceramic ware but is gaining popularity.Yue ware was already famous in the 10th.century;consider the following:
01.It was the 1st.tribute ware to be send to the Royal court @ Kaifeng.
02.Yue Ware directly/indirectly influenced the classic Song Dynasty ceramic ware of Ding,Yaozhou and also the later Longquan ware of furthur south of Zhejiang, when the independent state of Wu-Yue was absorbed into Song and the Yue potters migrated south during the Southern Song Period.
03.Also for Chinese Tea Connoisseurs; the Yue Ware Teacups has been acclaimed as the best for Tea usage by no other than Lu Yu the Patron of Tea in his classic book Cha Jing (Tea Classic).
The Large Cup here of Yue Ware could be the type refered to by Lu Yu as best suited for Tea usage. The cup is interrupted with small dents round the rim to give a six lobed design. The inner center is curved incised with a flower . Unusual is that the foot-rim and bottom is not glazed. The quality is of tribute standard because of the better control on the reducing atmosphere and the felsphatic glaze consistency. Even though fired in enclosed saggers, small dark dots of the wood ash from using wood as fuel is still visible. An excellent extant Yue Ware for evaluation.
