A Buddhist Relic;a Jade Lohan(Arahat) from the last Imperial Dynasty of China; the Qing Dynasty. The Lohan is portrayed seated on a rock with left hand on the knee and the right hand near the chin ,with the unusual gesture of the thumb pointing up towards the chin. The facial expression is nonchalantly dis-attach,reflecting the renunciation vows of the Buddhist Monks.
The Jade(Nephrite) is of darkish green and the Lohan is more realistically and well carved than many other examples in wood or cast in bronze.
