http://www.artnet.com/artist/663762/joseph-beaume.html

Stylishly Framed

Original Antique Engraving on Steel

Not a Reproduction

after a Painting by Joseph Beaume

Titled -

The Child Saved

Or

The Newfoundland Dog

Here on offer is a rare engraving probably from the late 1800's which depicts

a beautiful Newfoundland Dog saving a drowning child from a stream with mother

running to scene in background.

In addition to the framed original engraving

the buyer will also receive the two original antique

pages of text which accompanied the engraving

or were adjacent to it in the original publication

these are also shown here.

Despite searching quite extensively I was unable to locate any reference to the

painting itself and it is possible that Beaume only produced an engraving for the 1800s

publication in which this engraving first appeared, it is attributed to bottom left of picture

with the artists name and the "sculpt" or engraver  - J. Rogers, to the bottom right.

The publication or book this engraving is from is also quite rare and is titled

"The Gallery Of Fine Arts"

A collection of Popular Pictures, By Eminent British and Foreign

Artists, ancient and modern

Selected from public and private galleries, and fom other sources, with numerous

original designs by celebrated living artists;

Accompanied by Descriptive Illustrations By Various Authors

London, Joseph Robins, Bride Court Fleet Street. Circa 1860-90

Here we show the work framed, the image of the painting itself or engraving size

is as follows;

Paper size - 24 cm W x 19 cm H

Image Size (excluding text below) 16.2 cm W x 12.5 cm H

This depiction of the engraving has been virtually framed, the actual framing upon purchase

takes 7 days, and the frame style matches that shown, there are some frame choices also we can send you

and the framing includes mounting on archival mattes and with glass or  high quality non reflective perspex

This is a rare find and a lovelt sharp print, there is a water stain to the plate however this largely does not affect image area

even though it can be seen from the rear and up to the left hand edge of the engraving from the front, as can be seen

the engraving and printing quality is of a very high standard.

Other works shown here are by Beaume, the item for sale is the engraving titled "The Child Saved"

We pack carefully and for this item we offer Auctiva Insurance as well.
