OLD GLORY Magazine

December 2009

#238

Britain's best selling steam & vintage magazine

Old Glory | December, 2009 | Issue No: 238

38 Looking rather Nippy
Alan Barnes meets Barry Cousins and his immaculately restored DG6 Sentinel waggon No 7966 of 1929 Nippy in her eye-catching J Lyons livery, hailed as one of the top restorations of 2009.

44 In Robey we trust
Roger Hamlin takes a look at the work and the current restorations under way at the Devon-based Robey Trust, which strives to preserve the name and artefacts of one of Lincoln’s finest engine builders.

52 Ruston & Hornsby: traction engines
John Crawley delves into his archive to illustrate the traction engine output of Ruston & Hornsby Ltd, following the amalgamation of Ruston, Proctor with Richard Hornsby in 1918.

62 VIC 96: homeward bound
Project Leader and Skipper Derek Gransden explains to Alan Barnes the work carried out during the last years of the restoration of VIC 96 and her maiden month-long 856-nautical mile voyage home to Chatham last July.

66 Bluebell: the racing McLaren
Mike Dyson learns more about changing gear on the move as he helps out roading on a ‘positioning run’ between rallies with McLaren tractor No 1837 Bluebell.

70 Early preservation– the colour files
John Crawley presents a further colourful selection of engines at pioneering rallies from the earliest days of preservation.

75 Stembridge Tower Mill
With a £96,000 restoration just having been completed on Stembridge Windmill at High Ham, Somerset – famed as the last-remaining thatched cap windmill in England – Roger Hamlin went to find out more.

78 Seeing red!
Built in 1938 and sent in a consignment for Australia, this Farmall F-14 returned to the UK as a pile of scrap metal among other agricultural relics. The result of its ten-year restoration impresses Alan Barnes.

82 Out of Africa
Phil Braithwaite relates how he came to undertake the final restoration of repatriated T Green & Sons road roller No 2135 of 1925 from Africa.

Front cover:

This monthly magazine was published by Mortons Media Group, UK in 2009 and contains 98 glossy pages. It weighs approximately 220 grams unwrapped. It is in very good condition. It would make a wonderful addition to any library or collection and would suit those into vintage steam powered ANYTHING...or even a very thoughtful gift! GRAB A GREAT BARGAIN!

I have a number of these magazines listed so please feel free to buy more than one for combined postage deals.

This magazine can be mailed as a large letter anywhere in Australia for $1.80 (without bubble wrap). If you want it bubble wrapped, please contact me for costs.

PLEASE NOTE that usually I list all my items on Sunday (to finish on Sunday). However, now that I have opened an eBay store, I will be adding Buy It Nows whenever I am able. So please have another look if you are wishing to combine postage! You just don't know what you'll find!

Be assured that all scans and photographs of my listings are of the actual item I have for sale! I do not use 'stock photos'. Please contact me within 3 days of sale and please note that payment within 5 days would be much appreciated.

Please have a look at my other auctions, as I happily combine postage. I am having a HUGE (you wouldn't believe HOW huge) cleanout, so put me on your favourite sellers list...MUCH more to come!

Check out my other items!

PLEASE NOTE: There is now a new BIGGER postpak! This is an express postpak and holds a huge 5 kg. The cost is $19.10. Australia post has raised its prices on satchels and parcels as of July 2010. 500 gram postpaks are now $6.00 ($8.40 for 500 gram EXPRESS). Postpaks up to 3kg are now $10.30 regular and $11.70 for EXPRESS. I only charge the actual cost of postage...there are no handling fees. Registration costs $2.80 for $100 cover. Please contact me if you want this added to your purchase.

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: Please contact me for an accurate postage quote, as sometimes the postage calculator is not correct. Overseas postage from Australia can be quite expensive!

HAPPY BIDDING!

WELCOME TO THE FINE PRINT: I am happy to answer questions should you need more information. Items will be posted as soon as payment is cleared. There are no returns, refunds or exchanges unless a mistake or error is made by me. Please contact me within 3 days of auction to arrange payment within 5 working days. I always try to describe the item as accurately as possible. I am reliable, trustworthy & honest but I am not responsible for your parcel once it has been posted. Buyer is responsible for all postage costs. I will always combine postage costs if you purchase more than 1 item. POSTAGE & TERMS OF SALE: SAVE MONEY ON POSTAGE. Items will be combined on request to save on postage costs. Please email me if you anticipate the need to combine postage. Postage costs are kept as low as possible by sending items as letters wherever this is feasible. I use clean recycled packaging, which further keeps charges down. I do not charge for handling. International Shipping: International customers must use Paypal when paying for a transaction. I do not ship to any country in Asia or to Italy. This is because too many packages end up "lost" once they reach customs. Also, please do not ask us to make false claims on customs forms on any packages. We will not "gift" your package or change the amount on the customs form. Postage from Australia for overseas delivery can be EXPENSIVE! Please check before bidding to avoid unexpected expense. Although items go missing very rarely, unfortunately I cannot take responsibility for them being delivered. Insurance is available for an additional cost. Please let me know if you want your item to be insured. Please use your eBay user name when paying by bank deposit for identification. PLEASE use eBay checkout. Payments are accepted via bank deposit, money order and PayPal. For overseas purchasers, PayPal only please. Consider adding me to your favourite sellers and checking back regularly. If you are unhappy with any item for any reason, I would appreciate being given the opportunity to remedy the problem before any neutral or negative feedback is left. Feedback is very important to me and also lets me know you have received the item safely, I would appreciate your taking the time to give feedback on receipt of your purchase. As I live in a very remote location, please remember that it takes longer to get to your destination from Tasmania! I always notify you when I have shipped.
