In antique and historical research,the earliest extant specimen of anything is very important. In this aspect, this Dragon/Phoenix combination Jade (Nephrite) is one of the earliest if not the earliest of its kind. So far have not seen anything in any medium that is earlier, that shows this Dragon/Phoenix symbolism. Note the following:
01.The Hongshan Culture is at least over 4000 years old.
02.There is already an association of the Dragon with the Phoenix in a single artefact at that period of 4000 years.
03.it seems to acknowledge a carry over of prehistorical beliefs and symbolism to the historical dynasties and even to the present.
