Moore “Moore’s Universal Assistant” is a fascinating book from the late 1800’s, written for people who were travelling out to the American Wild West. It has all sorts of information about every aspect of life….. how to make wine, how to repair a steam locomotive, how to cut lumber, how to shoot bears, how to cure gout, how to get rid of vermin, how to calculate the Age of The Universe …. and so forth. It has a rather extensive section on Letterpress Printing….. including roller recipes, ink recipes, the layout of type drawers and a bunch of other cool info. It also contains many recipes and scientific facts. Archives.org has a digital copy that can be read for free, although the copy they have is the somewhat later, 1907 version. This hardback copy is not dated, however the caption with the picture of the New York and Brooklyn Suspension Bridge says the work was completed in 1883. The picture of the mantle clock‘s caption says Copyright, R. Moore, 1879. (The digital copy at Archives.org says the copyright is 1907). Condition Poor : Pages are yellowed At least 2 pages have come adrift and one of these, a plain page, has a piece torn out. The spine has come completely adrift
