Hello antique lovers! I'm Catherine, your community manager for antiques.
The big news at iTaggit Antiques this
month is the addition of our newest Expert, Susan Cramer, to the
iTaggit team! Susan
has been a fan of antiques and collectibles since she was a little
girl. She holds a degree in interior design, with additional courses
in writing. She has run estates sales, tag sales and booths at
antique shows and considers sifting through dusty boxes in estate
sale basements as one of the highest forms of recreation.
As a writer
her work can be found on Suite101.com
and Antique Week. Susan collects many types of antiques
including; buttons, blue pottery, art deco chromeware, statue of
liberty memorabilia, and books. She also collects World's Fair
memorabilia because the single brightest memory of her entire
childhood is from when her adored Uncle took her and her brothers to
the NY world's fair in 1964.
For
Susan, "the most interesting aspect of any antique is the
back-story; the memories of the part that a particular item played in
the life of its owner. Without this sort of connection, what we're
talking about is simply 'stuff'. That is not to say that a collector
has deep feelings for every item she has, but it's usually where a
collection starts." You have probably already seen some of her
most recent blogs on the site. To read more blogs, take a look at
the Most Recent Blogs section of this newsletter near the bottom of
the page, or simply log in to iTaggit.

Antique Louis XIV Furniture

Louis
XIV furniture style is known for its rounded forms and curved lines and
dates back to before 1700, when he was King of France. This is also
the same era and King who witnessed the conception, design, and
construction of The Chateau de Versailles. User singingintherain
is understandably proud of this shining example of the expert
craftsmanship that thrived during this period in history. To view the
beautiful details, just click here!

Antique Tribal Weavings
Pictured to the left is a Konya Ellibelinde Tree of Life Prayer Kilim.
A Kilim is a flat, tapestry-woven carpet or rug which can act as
decoration or a prayer rug. This particular Kilim celebrates ancient
Anatolian Mother Goddess imagery.
Notes owner RugCollector, "Crowning the mihrab is an
elibelinde figure with extended arms and gigantic outstretched hands.
This is an old motif called monster's hands. The mihrab complete with
tree of life becomes the skirt of the mother goddess. This figure is
set against a dark cranberry-red ground stack and filled with serrated
leaf, wolf's mouth and other motifs meant to protect and promote
fertility."
RugCollector's extensive collection
of rugs, Kalims, saddle bags and more is quite amazing for many
reasons. First is the quality of the items and their illuminating
descriptions. Next is the detailed craftsmanship and the deeper,
underlying meanings behind the shapes and symbols. Finally, the fact
that he has 29 such items shows his love of the art form and his
expertise in the field. To view his collection, simply click here. Be sure to leave a comment and rate the item!
