Although this year's Oscars were the least watched in history
(we're talking 80 years of ceremonies-ouch), there were still some
noteworthy events worth chatting about...
Diablo Cody, the cleverly named screenwriting ex-stripper/blogger
(phew) that we've all come to know and love, turned down an offer to
wear a pair of antique inspired shoes to the ceremony. It's not
that the Juno scribe didn't like the glitzy shoes, it's that
she didn't want to be a walking publicity stunt for some designer.
Oh, did I mention that they were worth over a million bucks?
Some people buy mansions, some buy one single pair of shoes.
I'm sure the designer will find someone willing to toss out a million dollars
for a somewhat cute, however, impractical pair of shoes that
automatically require an entourage of security guards.
Cody didn't know the worth of the designer shoes until after she
agreed to wear them. She later retracted her decision, opting for a
pair of shoes that appeared to be about $999,950 less (ish). The point
being, is that the value things carry can be a total shock. Just
ask Diablo. (Yeah, that's devil in Spanish. How punk rock/totally
creepy, right?)
So, you're probably thinking, "Who would throw a million
bucks worth of diamonds on their feet?" But, you might
also be thinking, "Hey, I've got some vintage inspired pieces of
my own. How
do I value antiques?" Well, you might find the answer
by showing your antique collectible to expert antique
appraisers and getting certified antique
appraisals to find undiscovered value. You might even try
checking out an antiques
price guide. Who knows, one day you might find a million
dollar pair of antique shoes under your bed. Whether you wear them
or not is a whole different story...
