I have a few antiques that I am going to sell, but how do you determin how much to ask for them? I know there are some online appraisal companies and I supose one could pay for them....but I had a lady tell me she wanted my light because her Mom had one and she could not make me a offer for it. I found out latter she had several antique shops and was trying to get my light for next to nothing. Again I ask, is there such a thing as a free antiqe appraisal and if so where could one find it?

I wish I could help you, but I'm in the same boat. I decided to try out the basic appraisal service. I have not heard about my item yet. I hope it was worth it.

Hi Dizzid48!

A lot of antique collectors have this similar issue. It is possible that if your item is appraised by a dealer you will be receiving the price they want to pay you for your item, NOT the price it would be worth at an auction for example. iTaggit's online appraisals start at $9.95 for a basic appraisal. This appraisal includes the current

fair market value and the replacement value. Since the appraiser is working with you over the internet, they do not have a stake in the value because they are not trying to buy it from you.

As far as free appraisals, unless your item is featured in an appraisal article or through another venue for the appraiser to make money, it is probable the appraisal isn't as accurate as it could be.

iTaggit does have a few free tools, such as the item value estimator and the community valuation collection, that are designed to help you find an estimated value for your item. You can access all of the valuation tools from your homepage, by clicking on  'Find the value of my item' in the middle of the screen.

Please let me know if you have any questions. We also have tools to help you sell your items when you are ready!
