I recently interviewed Steve Ellis of Fishermensspot.com for episode 77 of the Auctionwally Show.

Steve is an expert on fishing collectibles and a consultant at Worthopoint.com aka a Worthologist.

Here are some of the points he made in this interview:

  • Asked what was most important to the value of collectibles, he first stated: condition. His top grade was "excellent plus", the lowest was an "example", aka "filler" aka a lure in poor condition.
  • His advice: buy the best you can. He stated he would rather have a 2nd tier collectible in excellent condition, than own a rare item in poor condition.
  • The golden period for fishing collectibles he says are from the 1890s to 1930s with perhaps the 1920s as being the best of the best range in this period.

To hear the full interview, learn more about values, and rarities in the field, and, ahem...stream, listen to the episode here:

I must also thank Rob Pavey of MrLurebox.com  who supplied me with some great pics for the slide show posted below. Rob is the author of Warmen's Fishing Lures Field Guide: Values and Indentification.
