Feature Article: Islamic sleeper priced at £100 in January to be auctioned for £3 million in October

The Art Newspaper-

An extremely rare Islamic rock crystal ewer, which was sold earlier this year by a Somerset auction house as a "French claret jug" with an upper estimate of £200, is to be offered at Christie's London Eweron 7 October, for £3m.
The ewer was presumably purchased by the patriarch of the English family that now owns the piece around the year 1850.  It was then sent to Sèvres, where it was repaired and mounted in gold and enamel by the important French jeweler, Jean-Valentin Morel.
As the years wore on, much of the information associated with the ewer was lost, and when it came time for the family to sell the ewer in January, they had no idea of its value.  It was placed up for auction at Christie's London as a "French claret jug", with an upper estimate of just £200. The Art Newspaper reports that shortly after the sale of the ewer, its origin and true value was rediscovered, the sale annulled and the ewer returned to its original owner.
Now valued at an incredible £5M guide value, the ewer is available to be purchased by museums or, if it should remain unsold, will be auctioned off by Christie's London on October 7.

User Prettyflower notes: Documentation with this painting states that John R and Maude Jones obtained this while in Nanjing China were they served as missionaries. The date looks like in 1907 it had been given as a gift to a John R Fisher, their Nephew. I purchased it at a Charity Auction where it had been donated many years later.
