  • Thrift Thursday - Glamorous Gold

It's funny how my taste fluctuates - just a few years ago, I thought anything gold was icky.  I would not wear any gold jewelry, accessories, or tolerate any gold decor.  The thing is, I was obsessed with it for awhile - my high school bedroom was "romantic" with lots of fancy gold frames or angels and cherubs and flowing white curtains - you know, the mid 90s look.

Now that gold has firmly re-established itself in fashion and home design - I am noticing how much I am in love with it - again!  Except this time, it has a decidedly more "ethnic" vibe to it.

    Gold Asian Lamp

A few weeks ago - the gals and I hit up the two week long massive antique shopping event in Round Top, Texas.  The first morning out was very successful.  My friend scored these two fabulous lamps for $35 - that's for the pair!!!

The detail shot shows just how cool the asian floral motif is.  Her fiance is not so sure he loves them - be we all did!

Green & Gold Czech Glass Necklace

Today I am wearing my fabulous Green & Gold Czech Necklace.  I love green anything, and these beads literally screamed at me from across the room at the bead store.

    Green & Gold - detail

They were labeled as 1920s Czech Glass - for those of you who know Czech Glass - it is very collectible.  I strung them together with gold jump rings, added an old earring as the pendant - and viola! Sexy vintage style - with GOLD.

And the quest for gold continues - today I got a pedicure - and had my toes painted gold... I just wonder what's next.

I love having my funky jewelry posted on iTaggit - I have so much, I can hardly remember it all - but iTaggit keeps my collections organized

  • Crafty Office Gifts - for Men!

One of my favorite pastimes is browsing ETSY for unique handmade items.  I am an avid crafter, and I always like to see what people are up to.  Today's search led me to look for office items, and I stumbled upon several items that are cool enough for men!  I know, I know, you don't normally think "crafts" and "gifts for men" go together.  But these ETSY sellers are going to prove you wrong.

Retro Style: 3.5" Floppy disks were a fond part of my past - yes, even in college, we still used them on a daily basis.  I love the reinvention of these items into crafts!  Crafter "GeekGear" has made a simple and sleek pen holder out of floppy disks - too cool!

    Floppy Disk Pen Cup

Luxury Craft: You can buy a fancy pen anywhere, and have it engraved as a gift... but why not step out of the box a little, and get a totally unique, handmade pen?  Adrienne has used traditional pen elements along with wood and hardware to create this awesome item!  I can see this going over as a unique gift...

     Masculine Pen

Inner Child:  So just about everyone has replaced their Floppy Disks with a Flash Drive these days.  These AWESOME 1 G Drives are made with Toy Cars by artist "Dummberry".  I really think this is the coolest thing ever...

Of course, any of these items would work for women too - but I wanted to highlight their appeal for men Stick out tongue Check out some of my Office Goodness on iTaggit

  • Innovative Uses for Collectible Items

I am always inspired to give an old object a new life, and this week I have found treasures of innovative craftiness online.  It all started when I ran across this awesome notebook Scrabble Notebook on the Beehive Co-op site.  Artist Sarah Hindmarch handcrafts these notebooks using old gameboards and pieces.  Then I was reminded of an iTaggit Collection of wonderful old Board Games, and how much I love the games I played as a child.  Sometimes we want to collect things, and sometimes we want to take old things and give them a new life!

So I started looking for a website with cool jewelry made from game pieces, and found www.robomargo.com, an awesome site by Margo - who creates jewelry from all kinds of game pieces, features tips on decorating with your collections, garage sale shopping ideas and all kinds of how to's.

I have all kinds of ideas now on what to do with some of my collectibles!  More ideas on crafty projects and decorating to come!
