Getting Help on iTaggit

Hi there! Many of our friends have been posting blogs with questions about how much an item is worth. The best way for the iTaggit Community to help each other is to provide as much info as possible.

This blog is an example of what you can do with iTaggit! I took some pictures of my favorite necklaces to put up on iTaggit, and uploaded them all at once using our Add Multiple Items feature.

Then I looked over them, and decided I wanted to have them in three different collections. So then I created the collections,and went about adding the items to the collections. I chose to group my jewelry by style - the funky vintage, the "heavy metal" and the handmade all got a separate group. You can group your items any way you want.

I went to each item, and edited it. here I was able to put in info such as where I purchased the necklace, what it was made out of, and anything else I knew about it. This blog window lets you easily add a link to your item - you can use the little chain symbol to hyperlink text, or the little tree picture to add a picture of your item, or both! Play around, it's easy and fun. Click on the picture of my necklace below to see the item - and you can do this too!

When you look at my item, notice the buttons across the top - the last one says "Research this Item". Click on this - notice how you can do a detailed search on my item? If you add your item to iTaggit, you can do a detailed search too!

The more info you add about your item - the more people have to go on when giving you feedback.

Take a few moments to upload your items - and look around at other people's! There is a quickly growing community on iTaggit - see if you know anything about someone else's item, and leave comments.

Tips on Organizing Items For Sale Using iTaggit

I have been cleaning out the closet and am getting ready for an online garage sale of sorts. I have camping gear. I decided to use iTaggit to help organize it prior to sale. I thought I would post some tips for those of you out there that might be thinking of the same thing.

Create a For Sale Collection - I started out by creating a collection to store all the items I am planning on putting up for sale. Then just start loading in some of the items you want to sell. A quick way to do this is to go to Amazon and find a it to get things started.
Research the Item - Once you get some loaded in, start researching the items using iTaggit's research tools. I not only found some similar items on sale at eBay to give me some values. I also found some review sites that gave me some good description of it's features. I not only put this in the description field, but I also put web links in to lead those interested to the actual reviews of the item I was trying to sell.
Post the Item For Sale - There are a number of options out there to sell your item. Start with friends and family. You can put a link to your item in an email. Check out Yahoo groups to see if there is a group set up to sell and swap similar gear. Also you can check the social boards in the area of interest and look for classified sections in their forums where you can post a link. Of course there is eBay if you like the online auction approach. With the Publish feature, you can create HTML to paste directly into eBay.
Track Interest in Item - Once you get the item posted, you can monitor the number of views to see if you are getting any interest from a posting.

RSS Feeds and Reads

A good place to get started with RSS feeds is to watch this short and completely entertaining video on the CommonCraft website that describes what RSS feeds are an how you access them. The first thing you will want to do after that is get up and running on a reader. There are a number of readers out there. Google Reader, Bloglines, Newsgator, and My Yahoo! to name a few.

I have been using Google Reader myself and found it pretty slick. The cool thing about the reader is not only can you set up and organize your feeds, but you can search for them as well. Also, it allows you to share specific feeds you might find of interest with others. It kinda reminds me of my mom, a self proclaimed clipper and sharer of articles. Now you can do the same without ever having to pull out the scissors.

In a matter of no time I have set up over 25 feeds and have them organized into topics that interest me. I can start the day out reading them, much like I would my newspaper. I must say, this is pretty cool, and watch out, it can be addicting as well.

One last thing, don’t forget to set up iTaggit in your reader and you will get posts blog posts automatically. You can do this by going to the Blog Directory and selecting the blog you want to subscribe to and click on the RSS icon. This way you will get only the feeds you are interested in! Give it a shot...

Add 'dial or text-me' capabilities to your iTaggit Profile

Users can now add services and HTML links to their iTaggit profile with the latest release of Beta II. One of the cool services that can be added is Jaxtr, a web-based service that allows for communications between users without having to give out your direct phone number. Here is a bit about Jaxtr from their website:

Jaxtr was founded in October 2005 by Phillip Mobin and Touraj Parang with the mission to bring voice to social networks and blogs. With the free jaxtr service, users can link their phones with their online network to hear from callers worldwide while keeping their existing phone numbers private.

And jaxtr is not just about hearing from people who visit a user's profile or blog. By adding their jaxtr link to their email signature, global friends can call our users on their phone with the click of the mouse - without downloading any software, incurring international phone charges or even registering for jaxtr.

When users change their work, home or mobile number, they simply add or update their number on jaxtr; incoming calls then get routed to the phone of their choice. They can even block callers from reaching them or specify on a per-caller basis which callers can reach them live and which get routed to voice mail. Isn't that sweet?

We’ve just rolled out a new feature that makes adding items much easier and quicker. Our Amazon Search feature allows you to automatically import items, including images and field information, from Amazon to iTaggit. Import books, music, movies, and more.

Search Books, Music, and Movies by keyword. Other items can be searched by keyword as well. To ensure the most accurate search results in the All category, open another window and search the product through amazon.com, copy the ASIN number, and paste it into iTaggit’s Amazon Search box. We are working hard to simplify this process, but the issue comes from Amazon’s method of data entry.

Get Started and begin using iTaggit right now.

Step 1 – Add an item or items to the site – our easy-to-use multi-uploader allows you to add multiple items by selecting pictures and clicking Go.

Step 2 – Describe your item and add information, links, media files, and documents to your item page. The richer the information about the item, the more valuable it becomes.

Step 3 – Create a collection to showcase your items. Show off collections in the Gallery or keep them private or shared private.
